Follow us for music updates from artists in the Fedi who distribute their songs on fair platforms.

NHAM is an online music magazine for all things Fedi-music. It draws connections between indie musicians, fair distribution platforms and listeners, under a shared ethos.

We publish regular new music releases, reviews and news from the community to an audience of thousands of unique daily visitors.

As the go to music curation platform in the Fediverse NHAM also hosts music videos, has a radio channel and contains gig listings for both real life and online performances.

We aim to help develop and nurture the ecosystem which envelopes all of the fair platforms that currently support indie artists in The Fediverse, and in turn enhance discovery, distribution, attribution, fair artist payment, consent and trust. Interoperability and community are key to making this work.

Little Glitch

Serialising the album The Drunken Fisherman (And Other Stories) by Schall und Stille (@stephan): The debut release inspired by early childhood memories, pirate radio broadcasts, war and climate change among other things. It’s a sonic journey between ambient, electronica, triphop, wave and pop; between Eno, Kraftwerk and Massive Attack. Extended instrumental pieces alternate with atmospheric pop songs, layered voices and lush sonic landscapes, sometimes sublime, sometimes sombre.

Track 5/7: Little Glitch

“Little Glitch” is a song about the little things happening (or not happening) in our lives leading to great and profound changes.

It is one of the oldest tracks on the album, written during the first big Covid-19 lockdown, with me sending Nicole over some recording equipment and then her and me exchanging tracks via cloud services.

It has a special place in my heart because in a sense it’s of course about me and my ex-band, as well as about me and ex-friends, ex-partners, ex-people who once were important in my life… and the way things developed so fast without anyone having a chance stopping them.

It’s not me looking back in melancholy and saying “oh if we only did this and that”; I am through with that. It’s rather acknowledging the fact that life sometimes works this way.

Nicole, who has kindly provided lead and backing vocals throughout the whole album, here sings with a sincerity and vulnerability which I absolutely adore from the bottom of my heart… and which we weren’t able to replicate in the studio once lockdown was over and it was reasonably safe to meet again, no matter how hard we tried. So in the end we kept the demo version.

All proceeds from this album go to “Tara Tierhilfe e.V.“, an animal sanctuary near Cologne, Germany, which is home to more than 70 horses, goats, sheep, donkeys and pigs.

Lyrics

if not for that little glitch we could have gone dancing
if not for that little glitch we would have sailed out to sea
if not for that little glitch we could have been happy
we could have been you and me

if not for that little glitch there would be sunshine
if not for that little glitch there would be flowers and trees
if not for that little glitch we could have been happy
we could have been you and me

if not for that little glitch we could have been heroes
if not for that little glitch we could be free
if not for that little glitch we could have been happy
we could have been you and me

I'm Sam and I quit my Spotify subscription when I realised just how much great music is being made by independent musicians on fair platforms. I've been publishing the NHAM Mixtapes ever since.
