Music updates from artists in the Fedi who distribute songs on fair platforms.

NHAM is an online music magazine for all things Fedi-music. It draws connections between indie musicians, fair distribution platforms and listeners, under a shared ethos.

We publish regular new music releases, reviews and news from the community to an audience of thousands of unique daily visitors.

As the go-to music curation platform in the Fediverse NHAM also hosts music videos, has a radio channel and contains gig listings for both real life and online performances.

We aim to help develop and nurture the ecosystem which envelopes all of the fair platforms that currently support indie artists in The Fediverse, and in turn enhance discovery, distribution, attribution, fair artist payment, consent and trust. Interoperability and community are key to making this work.

NHAM Update Opus 11 (Too Hot to Handle Edition)

By @sknob

What a month!

New Site!

The big news of course, is that the new version of our website is out! You can read all about it in excruciating detail in this post.

Thanks to all of you who have given us feedback. I’m glad to say the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

New Fediverse Handle!

We also changed our handle from @mixtape to @nham! However, despite testing the switchover on a preproduction site, porting our followers to the new handle failed miserably. The vagaries and mysteries of federation…

So we’ll probably be reminding you to follow @nham for quite a while longer.

The @mixtape account will no longer be receiving any updates.

In other NEWS

The Indie Beat Television

We also published a progress report on The Indie Beat Television (TIBtv) by @limebar, who announced a prospective launch date! So mark your calendars for December 28!!!

There’s still time to submit videos—music videos, live gig recordings, animations and station and show IDs—to be part of history in the making. You’ll find all the info in the submission form.

Aside: Keen observers might notice em-dashes in the previous paragraph. Contrary to popular belief, humans actually use them! Rest assured that we don’t use Generative AI at NHAM. In fact, we won’t accept or publish anything “made” with GenAI, and we will summarily remove anything that might slip through. You should probably stop reading and following us if you disagree with this policy.

2025 Gravitons Festival!

Gravitons, a “community space for experimental electronic music”, is organizing an online festival, with livestreams starting November 26! Check out the EVENTS section for the full list of upcoming concerts.

You can even go to their site and subscribe to the calendar with your favorite calendar app.

So much great music!

Because of all this (and life in general), this Opus Post is ridiculously late.

But that means that there’s even more music to discover since the last update!

Starting with Sam’s (@ethicalrevolution) latest NHAM Mixtape Opus 17, Nana Hakka Allah Mama!

Followed by a ton of RELEASES in every conceivable genre by these fine fedi artists:

Finally, a friendly reminder that you can now listen to NHAM Mixtape Radio right from the home page of the new site, and even pop it out into a separate window!

Final Plea(s)

When you feel compelled to write a toot to recommend some cool fedi music you just heard, old or new, why not flesh it out a bit and send it to us? We’ll gladly publish your prose in our REVIEWS section! We’ll also gladly publish long-form reviews too of course. Please, don’t be shy, and help others discover the fedi music you’re passionate about!

We revamped the site to make it more inviting and interactive, and we hope you will spread the word far and wide that: 1/ Fedi music is the best, no really, it is, and 2/ NHAM is one of the best places to discover fedi music and artists and other great initiatives that share the same ethos!

To that end, remember to bookmark and to share our handy Finding Artists on the Fediverse Cheat Sheet with whomever might need it!
