Lorenzo’s Music Podcast Fedi Specials: #8 Kirsten Lambertsen
Lorenzo’s Music Podcast Fedi Specials: No.8 Kirsten Lambertsen
@lorenzosmusic from Lorenzo’s Music Podcast meets @mizkirsten, the creative mind behind The Indie Beat Radio (TIBR).
The Indie Beat Radio is an online station, but what sets it apart is its unique integration with Bandwagon (who Tom spoke with in a previous episode), allowing artists to upload their music directly to Bandwagon and opt-in for it to be played on Indie Beat Radio. This process ensures that new music is offered to listeners on The Indie Beat Radio, providing a diverse range of genres.
Kirsten emphasized the importance of music discovery, stating, “I think discovery is the biggest problem for artists.” She believes that platforms like Indie Beat FM can help bridge the gap by allowing listeners to explore new sounds and connect with artists in a meaningful way. With genre channels and curated playlists, the station creates an engaging listening experience that encourages exploration.
Kirsten is dedicated to evolving the platform to meet the needs of both artists and listeners. As she aptly stated, “I am trying to respond to what people want to do with it,” ensuring that Indie Beat FM remains a relevant and valuable resource for music streaming.

Being called a “creative mind” is going to get me through the rest of the month 😁 @mixtape @lorenzosmusic

@mixtape @lorenzosmusic @mizkirsten re: apps! I already made a playlist exporter so they could be added to other apps that can stream. I can look at options for wrapping those as basic "apps". I am way behind in my ideas for this. https://github.com/andypiper/tibr-playlists

@andypiper @mixtape @lorenzosmusic @mizkirsten What we would need that current apps which can play TIBR don’t currently provide is the artist info and links for each song being played.
As shown in the below screenshot only the station and channel name are displayed (using the cuterdio app in this example) but there is no info on the actual song currently playing.

@ethicalrevolution @mixtape @lorenzosmusic @mizkirsten yes, indeed. That's something that my GNOME extension successfully pulls in, so something like that ported to a simple mobile app might be interesting. As usual (and as Kirsten kind of said in the podcast / the web works) it sucks that we have to build that for all the platforms. When I have time (!) I'll do some exploring for current crossplatform(ish) options.

@ethicalrevolution @andypiper @mixtape @mizkirsten I noticed that when playing the website radio on mobile too. The swipe down player module on Android shows no playing info
