This EP released in 2025 by Jessica Tomlinson gives a few classical pieces a new flavour. As the name of the EP suggests, Switched on Pachelbel is inspired by Wendy Carlos’ Switched on Bach, and focuses on using analogue and modular style synths to reinterpret the original compositions. The synthetic sounds Jessica has created – a combination of glistening, squidgy, and quirky warm synths really appeal to me. And even though it’s a step away from the traditional instrumentation, they build on the character of the original style of the pieces, and show them in a new and engaging light.
